WHO WE ARE

Ranges Sugar Holdings.

Ranges Sugar Holding Limited is a sugar processing company based at Sukari House in Miharati, off the Njabini–Ol Kalou Road in Nyandarua County, Kenya. We focus on sugar beet. While sugarcane is the familiar source of sugar in Kenya, beet offers another route: extracting sugar stored in the plant’s root.

Our activities connect crop cultivation, beet deliveries and factory processing. Sugar beet is grown in the fields of Nyandarua, harvested and delivered to our factory at Sukari House, where it is processed into sugar.

The photographs presented here document the fields, facilities and people involved in this work.

OUR DIRECTION

Our areas of focus.

Agriculture, processing and people support our operations.

Agriculture
Sugar beet cultivation supported by suitable soils, growing conditions and crop management. Healthy beet depends on well-prepared land, good seed, timely planting and careful management through the season, and the cool highland climate of Nyandarua suits the crop.
Processing
Extracting and processing sugar from harvested beet for use in food and beverage applications. At the factory, delivered beet is washed and sliced, and its sugar is extracted, purified and crystallised.
People
Practical expertise in cultivation, engineering and sugar processing. Field teams, engineers, operators and office staff connect the work in the fields with the work in the factory.
WHY NYANDARUA

The right crop for the highlands.

Nyandarua sits high on the slopes of the Aberdare Ranges, with a cool climate and fertile soils. These conditions are a poor fit for sugarcane, which needs warm lowland weather, but they suit sugar beet, a crop grown for sugar in temperate regions around the world.

The county is already known for its farming, particularly potatoes, vegetables and dairy. Sugar beet adds another crop that can fit into the rotation, and its pulp can be fed to the dairy cattle that are such a big part of local farm life.

Processing the beet close to where it grows makes practical sense too. Harvested roots are heavy and bulky, so a nearby factory cuts the distance between the farm gate and the factory gate.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

The values behind the sugar.

Four commitments guide how we grow, process and do business.

01

Quality in every crystal

We aim for sugar that is consistent, clean and dependable in every bag, supported by careful processing at every stage.

02

Rooted locally

We are a Nyandarua company. Growing and processing the crop here keeps jobs, skills and income close to home.

03

Working with farmers

Beet sugar depends on beet growers. Strong, fair relationships with the people who grow the crop are central to how we work.

04

Using the whole crop

Beet pulp and molasses are useful co-products, not waste. Making good use of them is part of running a responsible operation.
